Amtrak and Plenary Infrastructure Philadelphia (PIP) have reached a financial close for the William H. Gray III 30th Street Station Redevelopment PPP project in the USA. Under the agreement, PIP will refurbish and improve the historic building, finance those improvements and maintain the station for a period of 50 years.

The historic transportation hub is almost 100 years old and is Amtrak’s third busiest station. The project involves the restoration of the station and the improvement of the customer experience by introducing new amenities, revitalizing the retail and commercial potential of the station, expanding existing office space, and enhancing transit and pedestrian traffic flows. The redevelopment project includes nearly 500,000 square feet of renovation and modernization.

The PIP team is formed by Plenary Americas as lead developer, Gilbane Building Company as design-build lead, Johnson Controls Inc. for facility operations and maintenance, and Vantage Airport Group for concessions development and management. Construction works are expected to begin in 2022 and be complete in 2025. In addition, as of September 1, 2021, the team is already operating and maintaining the existing building.
