Transport for Wales (TfW) has announced the Bay Line transformation project in Wales, the UK.

The project involves the transformation of the Bay Line as part of the South Wales Metro, the construction of a new two-platform Butetown railway station and the redevelopment of Cardiff Bay station. Cardiff Bay station will include new signage and customer information screens. The Bay Line will deliver a new rapid transport link from Cardiff Central to Cardiff Bay, via Callaghan Square, providing a vital transport link to support the development of the Callaghan Square, Bute Street, Lloyd George Avenue and the Atlantic Wharf masterplan.

The project is part of the Core Valleys Lines (CVL) program, which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The UK government has provided GBP50 million (US$61 million) for a route from Cardiff Central to Cardiff Bay.

The installation of the new track will allow faster and more frequent service of new tram-trains with the new timetable. In January 2023, construction on the construction complex on Lloyd George Avenue will begin, followed by work on the tracks.
