BNDES to privatize USD1.8 billion federal highways in Brazil

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Ministry of Infrastructure (MInfra) are planning to privatize 1,646 kilometers of federal highways together with the selected consortium, responsible for technical services of structuring the project. The roads pass through Minas Gerais, Bahia, Pernambuco, Ceará and Goiás. The initiative is part of the ministry's agenda to privatize up to 8,300 km of federal highways.

In total, nine road stretches will be analyzed and evaluated for tender, as part of the federal highways in five states, and these studies are estimated to be finalized in the first quarter of 2022. The auctions are expected to take place between 2nd semester of 2022 and 1st semester of 2023. Total investments reach up to BRL9.6 billion (US$1.8 billion). The concession period will be 30 years

The consortium, formed by Systra Engenharia e Consultoria Ltda, Dynatest Engenharia Ltda and Manesco, Ramires, Perez, Azevedo Marques Sociedade de Advogados, will provide support to the BNDES throughout the tender process, including the phases of technical studies, public hearings, analysis by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) and auctions.

Throughout the process, alternatives that create a favorable environment for economic development, with legal certainty, and that maximize the value generated for the Federal Government, always aiming at a better allocation of public resources, are prioritized.
