Brazil auctioned first lot of 5G frequencies concession

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) in Brazil has successfully auctioned radio frequencies in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands under the 5G Concession. The auction raised approximately BRL7.089 billion (US$1.29 billion).

The winners for the auction are the following:

  • 700 MHz Band: Winity II Telecom;
  • Domestic 3.5 GHz Band : Claro, Vivo, and TIM;
  • Regional 3.5 GHz Band : Sercomtel in North region; Brisanet in Northeast and Midwest regions region; 5G South Consortium in South region; Cloud2U in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais; Algar Telecom in Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and São Paulo;
  • Regional 2.3 GHz Band : Brisanet in the Northeast region; Vivo in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais; Algar Telecom in the south of Minas; TIM in the states of Rio, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais;
  • National 26 GHz Band : Claro, Vivo, and TIM;
  • Regional 26GHz Band: TIM in Southern region; Algar Telecom and Flylink in Triângulo Mineiro; Neko in state of Sao Paulo.

The auction aims to equip highway infrastructure, municipal offices and selected locations in the nation with the 5G network. Through these bandwidths, the operators will be able to expand their service network.
