Brazil awards multimillion public lighting PPP project

The municipality of Campinas has selected Ilumina Campinas consortium for its public lighting concession. The consortium is made up of companies BMPI Infra S/A and Construtora Remo Ltda. The consortium won the auction for the concession by the proposal of BRL1.2 million (US$0.21 million) in monthly payment, which is 63% less than the reference value.

The consortium will be responsible for the modernization of around 122,000 public lighting points, using LED lamps and remote management. The concession involves installation, modernization, efficiency, expansion, management, operation, and maintenance services for a period of 13 years.

The municipal secretary of Public Services, Ernesto Paulella, commented: "This company is going to exchange the entire lighting system, which today is made of sodium and mercury, for LED, which has a much higher lighting efficiency and is very economical in terms of energy consumption. So, we should have savings of up to 70% in energy costs for this lighting."
