The Ministry of Infrastructure signed a contract with the National Bank for Social Economic Development (BNDES) to carry out studies on the new management and exploration models of the Port of Santos (SP) and the Port of São Sebastião (SP). The study is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021 and the auction for the ports will take place in 2022.

This step will define the best exploration model for the two ports. The entry of the private sector in the management of ports generates a greater flow of investments and more dynamism in port activity, in addition to the modernization and improvement of service levels, increased efficiency, more competitiveness (internal and external), as well as incorporation international best practices.

The São Sebastião port complex comprises the public port and the private use terminal (TUP) of Transpetro. The port is delegated by the Union to the state of São Paulo, being managed by Companhia Docas de São Sebastião (CDS). In total, it has five berths, four storage yards, as well as five silos with 4 thousand tons of static capacity.

The Santos port has 16 km of wharf, 100 km of internal railway network, 20 km of internal road accesses, 55 km of pipelines, and receives about 4,800 ships a year.
