Canadian city to tender US$2 billion light rail project in March

The City of Edmonton, located in Alberta, west-central Canada, has published a Notice of Intent to launch the procurement process for the design and construction of the Valley Line West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project with the release of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in early March.

The project will include civil and structure works, systems and light rail vehicle supply and will be procured using as a Design-Build-Finance delivery model.

The LRT will run from Mill Woods through downtown Edmonton to the west end, with connections to LRT and bus routes covering the entire city. It will have 14 stops including West Edmonton Mall, the Misericordia Hospital and the Brewery District. The total estimated cost of the project is CAD2.6 billion (US$1.9 billion), with the Government of Alberta to fund CAD1 billion (US$733 million).
