Chile invites bidders for USD503 million Highway concession

The Ministry of Public Works of Chile has announced the call for bids for the concession of the Route 5 section Chacao-Chonchi on the island of Chiloe. The call for bids was published in the Official Gazette.

The project will include the expansion of a 126-kilometers road to a double carriageway from the southern access of the Chacao Bridge until the north access to Chonchi, as well as the operation and maintenance of this road during the concession period, including around 16 km of road with a bi-directional road profile, corresponding to the Castro bypass.

The main works of this project include the following:

  • Construction of a new bridge over the Pudeto River, approximately 750 meters long, and six other bridges;
  • Construction of six animal crossings/ecological passages, 15 uneven links and variants in the main towns;
  • Rehabilitation works of the pre-existing infrastructure;
  • Construction of pedestrian walkways, bus stops, regulation of intersections and level access;
  • Improvement of sanitation and drainage systems, the implementation of control elements and road safety of the road, etc. 

The reception of technical and economic bids for the concession is scheduled for November 26, 2021, while the economic opening would take place on December 30, 2021
