The Grupo Vía Central, a consortium company led by Sacyr, has announced that it has completed 78% of construction works for the Ferrocarril Central PPP project in Uruguay.

The work progress includes 100 km of railway track installation, 90% of earthworks and trench digging as well as 80% of the structures (bridges, frames, sewers).

The project involves the construction, financing, rehabilitation and maintenance of a 273 km Montevideo — Paso de los Toros route of the Ferrocarril Central. It will connect Paso de Toros with the port of Montevideo reducing the travel time from 14 hours to 6 hours. The USD1.07 billion project also includes a maintenance period of 18 years.
