Costa Rica to concession USD 1.9bn highway megaprojects

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport in Costa Rica has announced plans to award highway megaprojects worth US$ 1.94 billion located across the country. These highway infrastructure megaprojects will contribute to the economic reactivation of Costa Rica. Among the projects to be promoted, several works will be carried out under the modality of public-private partnerships (PPPs).

The highway megaprojects include:

San José-San Ramón highway: 55 km highway expansion of the San José-San Ramón Road Corridor and its radials with an investment of US$ 400 million.

San José-Cartago highway: 24.3 km of a track which will connect to Florencio del Castillo highway, with an estimated total investment of US$ 400 million.

Expansion of Route 27, San José-Caldera: total investment for expansion of Route 27, San José-Caldera is US$ 500 million. The route is the exising concession whose concessionaire is Autopistas del Sol SA (Globalvía).

The highway between San José-Río Frío that connects with Route 32 whose investment amounts to US$ 640 million. Hernán Solís- GETINSA TPS is the consortium that made the proposal for the project.
