Dominican Republic launches procurement for Puerto Duarte cruise terminal PPP

The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) and the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP) in the Dominican Republic have started the competitive bidding process for the Puerto Duarte cruise terminal concession located in Arroyo Barril-Samaná, Dominican Republic. The project is being procured under the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) model.

The project will see the conversion of Puerto Duarte into a cruise terminal and area tourist facility to provide entertainment options to passengers. The scope of work includes the development of a cruise terminal capable of receiving Oasis-type vessels with up to 8,500 passengers as well as the development of a maritime terminal with a capacity to receive 4 cruise ships simultaneously.

The estimated investment value for the project is US$60 million. The project aims to create more than 1,050 jobs and generate an income of US$31.2 million in the first year. Once complete, the terminal expects to cater to approximately 161 cruise ships per year from Miami, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Curaçao, Barbados, Montego Bay, Saint Lucia, Tampa Bay and New York.
