FC and start of construction of USD570mn hospital in Canada

The consortium led by Plenary Group has reached commercial and financial close for the design, development, finance, and maintenance of a new acute care hospital located in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. The groundbreaking ceremony was also held on August 16 marking the beginning of construction of the hospital.

The new Western Memorial Regional Hospital campus, a seven-story, 600,000 square foot facility will be connected to the 145-bed long-term care home currently under construction.  The hospital will have 164 beds, 15 palliative care beds and 10 rehabilitative care beds with the same services currently provided at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, as well as an expanded cancer care program including radiation services. The hospital is anticipated to be completed in 2023.

The consortium called Carner Brook Care Partnership is composed of Plenary Group Ltd., PCL Investments Canada Inc., PCL Constructors Canada Inc., Marco Services Ltd, Cahill Group - Plan Group, B+H Architects, Parkin Architects and Johnson Controls Canada.

Throughout the remainder of August, site perimeter fencing, more heavy equipment, and work trailers will be arriving on site. Excavation is scheduled to begin in early September followed by the pouring of concrete for the foundation of the building beginning in early October.

A job fair and employment website for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians looking to work on the construction of the hospital will also be hosted by Corner Brook Health Partnership in September.

The Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador at the groundbreaking ceremony said - “It gives me great pleasure to see construction beginning on the new hospital for western Newfoundland. We look forward to seeing the progress of construction over the next few years and to the day when the Corner Brook facility is providing residents in the region with improved health care in a modern environment.”
