Final train enters service on AUD4.4bn rollingstock project in Australia

John Laing Group (John Laing) has announced that the final New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) train has been accepted and entered into passenger service in Queensland, Australia.

The NGR project is being delivered by the Qtectic consortium which includes John Laing, Aberdeen Standard Investments, Itochu, and Bombardier Transportation, in partnership with the Queensland Government.

The project has now delivered 75 trains into service on the South East Queensland rail network and is responsible for their ongoing maintenance under a long term contract (around 30 years). The trains have traveled more than 12.5 million in-service kilometers since the first train commenced operations in December 2017. The project also involved the construction and maintenance of a modern, purpose-built maintenance centre at Wulkuraka in Ipswich

John Laing Asset Director, Tom Brooks said: “We are delighted to have reached this significant project milestone. These trains are supporting the Queensland Government to provide essential transport services for the public in South East Queensland as they meet the growing demand for rail services.”
