First tender launched in new metro line project in Brazil

Sao Paulo State Government in Brazil has launched the first tender linked to the development of Line 20-Rosa (Pink) of Sao Paulo metro. The tender is for the development of the engineering blueprint, functional design and environmental impact study of the project.

The study will help the contracting authority to define the profile of Line 20, the location of the stations, the layout, construction method, and the areas to be expropriated. The proposals will be opened on July 21 in a public session.

The new line is planned to be 31 km long, one of the longest in Sao Paulo, will have 24 stations, and will connect to other 10 metro lines (1-Blue, 2-Green, 4-Yellow, 5-Lilac, 6-Orange, 7-Ruby, 8-Diamond, 10-Turquoise, 19-Sky Blue, 22-Burgundy). It will connect the Santa Marina station to Santo Andre station. The line will serve around 1 million people a day.

The project will also include the development of train yards and parking lots along the route. According to the draft contract, the selected company must present alternatives for the layout, construction method, and location of stations and other auxiliary buildings to the Metro, which will then choose the most appropriate option.

The contracted company will have up to 32 months to deliver projects and studies from the service order. The earliest the contract could be signed is the last quarter of this year, meaning the project study will be ready in the second half of 2023. Only then it will be possible to think about the bidding for the project.
