Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA) is planning to build a new part of the Ring Road around Hornarfjarðdarfljot. The project will include the construction of a 19-kilometer-long national road, the construction of four double-span bridges, the construction of several side roads, a total of about 4 kilometers long, as well as two rest stops. Construction is expected to start before the end of 2021.

IRCA is looking for parties interested in negotiating with them, following a tender, for the construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the structures in the long term. The tender will include the construction and financing of the structures as well as their operation and maintenance during a 20-30 year contract period. The state is expected to provide up to 50 % of the funds required for the project.

The estimated date of publication of the contract notice is September 27, 2021.
