The Danish Road Directorate has selected Jacobs to support the design and management of the Marselis Tunnel in Aarhus, Denmark.

Collaborating with developer consultant Rambøll over the next decade, Jacobs will leverage its global experience and project optimization strategies to deliver mechanical and electrical design and construction management services for the tunnel of this transformative infrastructure project in a high-density urban setting. The Marselis Tunnel project, expected to begin construction in 2028, is in the planning and design stage. Located in Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city and Denmark’s largest commercial port on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula, the tunnel aims to improve traffic flow between key transport hubs. Its purpose is to provide a faster, more direct and safer route linking Aarhus Port—a vital center for freight and logistics—to the E45 Østjyske Motorway via Åhavevej, a major arterial road. By rerouting traffic from Marselis Boulevard, a central city artery, the project also seeks to create a quieter, more environmentally friendly urban environment.

This project builds on Jacobs’ extensive experience with major infrastructure initiatives, including the Copenhagen Nordhavn Tunnel, the conversion of VandCenter Syd’s Ejby Mølle plant into an energy-positive facility, and strategic advisory support (in partnership with PA Consulting) for the Copenhagen Metro’s operations and maintenance. With nearly 45,000 employees and annual revenues of around US$12 billion, Jacobs delivers comprehensive, end-to-end services across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, cities and places, energy, environment, life sciences, transportation, and water. Its offerings span advisory and consulting, feasibility studies, planning, design, program management, and full lifecycle management.
