Lambert Smith Hampton is advising North Hertfordshire Council on procuring a development partner to regenerate the Churchgate Shopping Centre, Hitchin Market, and surrounding town-centre assets in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, UK.
The project involves the regeneration of the Churchgate Regeneration Zone (CRZ) in Hitchin town centre, Hertfordshire, UK, with the aim of creating a vibrant, sustainable and commercially viable destination that supports the town’s long-term growth. Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) is advising North Hertfordshire Council on the procurement of a development partner to help plan and deliver the regeneration of the Churchgate Shopping Centre, Hitchin Market and surrounding town-centre assets.
The proposed redevelopment aims to introduce a redesigned market, new homes, improved public spaces and better connectivity across the town centre. The scheme is also expected to incorporate a diverse mix of commercial, leisure and community facilities, creating a more attractive environment for residents, businesses and visitors. Environmental sustainability and climate resilience are additional priorities, with the project intended to help Hitchin adapt to future challenges while strengthening its economic vitality.
The appointed development partner will initially undertake a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the project's development potential, commercial viability and deliverability. This phase will involve masterplanning and evaluating potential development options before the project can proceed to implementation, subject to the council's approval. LSH will support the council through the procurement process, drawing on its experience in development consultancy, town-centre regeneration and public-private partnerships.
