Lyon metropolitan council and transport authority Styral in France announced plans to renegotiate the Rhônexpress concession - a train-tram link between downtown Lyon and Lyon-Saint Exupery airport. The aim of renegotiation is to improve services on light rail Line T3, which shares infrastructure with Rhônexpress, reduce fares, and enable the operation of alternative public transport services to the airport. Under the current concession, Styral cannot include additional services on Line T3. With a sudden increase in demand, Sytral is looking at how it can find the capacity to step up tram services to the east of the city.

This Rhônexpress included design and construction of the railway line between downtown Lyon and Lyon-Saint Exupery airport in France. The line is 22 km long and has four station stops including two end stops. The link designed to allow speeds up to 100km/h between Meyzieu and the airport. The concession also includes operation and maintenance period of 30 years.

The current return fare is €27.80 (US$ 31.40), which seems excessive to metropolitan council and Styral. Both authorities are looking for the reduction in fare by renegotiating the contract.
