Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has announced the list of pre-qualified applicants for the development of the second phase of OPWP’s renewables program. The company has announced in July 2019 the launch of two (2) solar Independent Power Projects (IPPs), with each project having a generation capacity between 500 MW to 600 MW and each of the projects to be developed by two different developers.

OPWP received 14 submissions for qualification from international and local consortiums from 14 different countries. Nine consortiums have been either conditionally, or unconditionally qualified. The consortiums are from Oman, France, Japan, Portugal, Republic of Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.

The procurement of these solar IPPs is part of the Government policy to diversify energy resources to meet the growing demand for electricity. The implementation of these projects shall follow the successful IPP model established in Oman, using a fair and transparent competition process to award the contracts to two highly qualified private sector companies delivering world-class technology solutions.
