The planning permission has been granted for the Dublin Metrolink Project as the statutory planning body, An Coimisiún Pleanála, formally issued the Railway Order, which gives the green light for construction of the MetroLink Project.
The 18.8-kilometre MetroLink line will connect Swords, Dublin Airport, and Dublin city centre, and will deliver a fast, efficient, and sustainable public transport system for the Greater Dublin Area. It will include 16 stations, seven of which will be located within Fingal. The line will provide a high-capacity service capable of carrying up to 20,000 passengers per hour per direction, cutting journey times between Swords and the city centre to around 25 minutes.
The planning approval allows the project to move into its tendering and procurement phase, with construction expected to commence once contractors are appointed. Fingal County Council reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), the National Transport Authority (NTA), and local communities to ensure coordinated development and minimal disruption during construction.
