The Government of Pakistan has announced plans to rejuvenate the Reko Diq mining project located in Balochistan, Pakistan.
The government of Pakistan (25% stake), the provincial government of Balochistan (25% stake) and Barrick Corporation (50% stake) have reached an agreement to restart the project which has been on hold since 2011.
According to the agreement, Barrick will update the already conducted feasibility study. The mine will have a conventional open pit and milling operation structure. It is envisioned to be a multi-generational mine with an operational period of 40 years. The construction works for the mine will be carried out in two phases. The first phase is scheduled to be operational by 2027/2028 with a production capacity of 40 million tonnes of ore annually. Barrick will be responsible for the operation of the mine.
