Preferred bidder selected for USD309 million street lighting PPP project in USA

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OP3) have selected Plenary Infrastructure DC (PIDC) as the Preferred Bidder for the DC Smart Street Lighting project in Washington DC, USA.

If the contract is awarded, PIDC will be responsible for providing the financing for the project, completing the installation work within two years, and managing all service operations throughout the 15-year contract.

The project involves the modernization of more than 75,000 streetlights by converting them to LED technology with remote monitoring and control capabilities. It aims to increase the city’s sustainability efforts by reducing streetlight energy consumption by more than 50%. The project will also add 239 Wireless Access Points, expanding the District’s broadband Wi-Fi network to more areas of need.

The estimated investment in the project is USD309 million. The project will help to eliminate 38,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
