The City and County of Denver will delay the procurement process for the public-private partnership (P3) for phases 3-8 of the National Western Center redevelopment. A delay is caused by the economic impacts of reduced tourism tax revenues due to COVID-19.

Current construction on phases 1 and 2 of the National Western Center project is proceeding. Despite this delay on phases 3-8, the city is committed to completing the full mission and vision of the National Western Center alongside its partners at the National Western Stock Show, CSU, History Colorado, and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, as well as the National Western Center Authority, and others.

The city will monitor Denver’s recovery from the economic shock of COVID-19 and will evaluate options and timing to complete phases 3-8 project procurement, including exploring other opportunities for revenues to support this project such as potential federal infrastructure funds. Denver’s Office of Performance-Based Infrastructure looks forward to pursuing completion of the campus under more favorable economic conditions, as well as making adjustments to ensure equitable participation in the community engagement process in light of COVID-19.
