State and regional highway planners have rejected an unsolicited proposal by Spain-based road-building giant Cintra to construct and manage Interstate 77 toll lanes from Charlotte to South Carolina in the USA.

Cintra undertook the financing, construction, and ongoing management of the 26-mile toll lanes on I-77, spanning from I-277/Brookshire Freeway to Mooresville. The company had proposed constructing such lanes on the consistently congested I-77 section in Charlotte. However, a consortium of state and local highway planners opted not to proceed with Cintra's proposal. Instead, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has been working on its own plan for managed lanes covering an 11.2-mile stretch. This US$ 2.1 billion initiative aims to introduce managed or "express" lanes extending from I-277 to the state line.

The I-77 toll lanes refer to a transportation infrastructure project involving the construction and operation of managed or express toll lanes along Interstate 77 (I-77) in North Carolina, USA. The project aims to address congestion and provide travelers with an option to use tolled lanes for a more predictable and efficient commute, particularly during peak traffic hours.
