Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP), a joint venture of Meridiam, Star America and Fluor, has given termination deadline to the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) both parties cannot reach a settlement with over extensive delays and cost overruns for the Purple Line Light Rail P3 Project in Maryland. The consortium announced a 60-day termination notice putting the deadline to resolve the current issues by August 23, 2020.

PLTP filed a notice of termination after the failure to reach an agreement with its contractor on the matter of delay related costs. PLTP cites the following issues that caused almost 1000 days delay and half a billion USD in added costs: delays in receiving environmental permits, right-of-way, and land. Negotiations between two parties over who is responsible for the delays and related costs is expected to continue until August 23.

Currently, 40% of the construction works are completed for the 16-mile long project. Abandoning the works will bring major inconvenience to the inhabitants due to ripped up roads, incomplete tunnel, and partially built rail bridges.
