RB Rail AS signed CEF for Rail Baltica global project

Baltic States RB Rail AS has announced signing an additional cross-border EUR353.9 million (US$352.6 million) Grant Agreement on the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding for the Rail Baltica global project with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia, the Ministry of Transport of Latvia and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania.

The signing of the cross-border Grant Agreement provides for the following tasks for 2023:

  • Development of other Rail Baltica mainline designs in Lithuania;
  • Construction works on Rail Baltica mainline on the priority section in Latvia near the Latvia/Lithuania border and detailed technical design for the construction base in Skulte;
  • Construction of the underground part of Rail Baltica in Estonia and elements of the mainline;
  • Tasks to ensure cross-border dimension and technical interoperability.

The total budget for this agreement is EUR422.6 million (US$421 million), of which EUR353.9 million (US$352.6 million) is CEF support. In total, more than EUR1.2 billion (US$1.1 billion) is available for Rail Baltica implementation, out of which 85% comes from the CEF.
