Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for teams interested in designing and building the Stations, Rail and Systems (SRS) package for the Scarborough Subway Extension PPP project in Greater Toronto, Canada.

The scope of works for the SRS package includes:

• Three new subway stations, with bus terminal facilities and a terminal station at McCowan Road and Sheppard Avenue;
• Eight emergency exit buildings and other life-safety facilities;
• Transition section between Kennedy Station and the tunnel boring machine extraction shaft;
• Installation, testing and commissioning of all systems equipment;
• Four traction power substations;
• Integration with TTC infrastructure at Kennedy Station as well as with the advance tunnel infrastructure works.

The Subway Extension project involves the development of a 7.8-kilometer subway, which is one of four priority transit projects in Ontario province. The project is delivered in two contracts- the SRS package and the Advance Tunnel contract. IO and Metrolinx will select a development partner for the SRS contract, with whom they intend to work together during a design phase before finalizing the design-build contract. The shortlist of qualified proponents is expected to be announced in early 2022.
