The Government of São Paulo, through the Litoral Paulista Highway Concession, has initiated a comprehensive modernization program valued at BRL4.3 billion (approximately US$791 million) to upgrade 213 km of the road network across the Baixada Santista, Alto Tietê, and Vale do Ribeira regions.
Early works include laying 17,300 tons of new pavement, repairing critical sections, installing eight 24/7 User Support Service (SAU) bases, and improving signage, lighting, and roadside maintenance. Seven active work fronts in municipalities such as Bertioga, Santos, Miracatu, and Peruíbe are preparing road segments for major upgrades, including duplication, frontage roads, overpasses, and bike lanes.
The government emphasizes that toll collection will only begin once the priority works are delivered and verified by Artesp, with residents of the southern coastal region exempt from toll charges until the completion of the frontage roads between Praia Grande and Peruíbe. These improvements aim to enhance safety, traffic flow, and quality of life in the region.
