South Africa announces second round of 55 infra projects

The government of South Africa has announced the second round of 55 projects under the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) 2021. The aim of the announcement is to raise the funding for the project implementation.

Under SIDSSA 2021, the government intends to achieve infrastructure-led economic growth and create employment. The 55 new projects are from various sectors such as transport and social & health and water infrastructure, valued at around ZAR595 billion (US$39.8 billion) with a funding gap of ZAR441 billion (US$29.49 billion).

Some of the projects being implemented under the second round are as follows:

  • Maitland Metro Precinct Development in Cape Town;
  • Rural Bridges in Welisizwe, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Ekhamanzi Mangwenya, Amanzimtoti, Mthoqotho, and KZN;
  • Small fishing harbors at Kalk Bay, Gordons Bay, Saldanha Bay, Hout Bay, Gansbaai and Arniston;
  • N3 National Road upgrade;
  • Durban-Free State-Gauteng Logistics and Industrial Corridor;
  • Salvokop Precinct Development in Tshwane;
  • PV and Water Savings on Government Buildings Programme.
