Ministry of Public Works in Chile has launched a bid notice for operation and expansion of El Loa Aiport located 6 km from the city of Calama. The concession will see the expansion of the surface of the airport building from 9,763 m2 to 30,378 m2 as well as capacity to handle 4,300,000 passengers per year.

The private partner will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the pre-existing infrastructure as well as construction of :

• 483 new public parking places for vehicles
• 5 parking spaces for commercial aircraft
• 5 new automatic check-in equipment
• 12 new traditional check-in counters
• Expansion and modification of the vehicular and pedestrian roads of internal circulation of the airport
• Relocation and expansion of the sewage treatment plant
• Electrical installations
• Replacement of the pre-existing signage and incorporation of signage in the new areas, landscaping, irrigation, and airport security fence

The authority expects to award the concession in the first half of 2022 and construction works are expected to start in 2025. The deadline to submit the bids for the concession is December 30, 2021.
