Thailand to develop USD1bn high-speed rail hub

The Ministry of Transport of Thailand has announced the plans to develop THB 31.9 billion (USD 1.025 billion) national high-speed rail hub in the Central Province of Ayutthaya on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis.

The Province of Ayutthaya north of Bangkok was selected as a project location because of it´s cultural and historical significance - it is a host of a historical park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. "This project will help Ayutthaya province develop its full potential with a variety of transport systems, green spaces, sidewalks, and cycling routes," said Roengsak Thongsom, director of the office's Bureau of Transport and Traffic System Development.

The Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) will be constructed near Ayutthaya railway station. It will connect with high-speed train lines linking Bangkok and the North and with Nakhon Ratchasima in the Northeast. The project will involve the development of the double-track and high-speed railway station, with station buildings, offices, shopping centers, and condominiums.
