The new courthouse for Travis County, Texas, will finally not use a public private partnership delivery method. 

In July 2013, Travis County commissioners voted to build the courthouse using a design-build structure. Previously the county had hired Ernst & Young LLP as advisor to study a potential P3 structure for the project.

The county even launched a Request for Information (RFI) to which, twenty one firms responded showing interest in the project.

Now, Travis County Commissioners Court are considering funding the construction of the Travis County Courthouse though issuing bonds.

During its January 21 meeting, the court decided to delay the bond election from 2014 until May 2015 to avoid a conflict with other large funding items expected to be on that ballot, including the city of Austin's urban rail project.

If voters approve issuing bonds to fund the project, the county would have a goal of opening the new courthouse in the first quarter of 2018,  though the schedule may shift to reflect the later bond election.

The new courthouse is expected to cost around US$300 million. URS has prepared final technical reports.
