Uruguay signs the first public private partnership contract for educational infrastructure

Last week the Government of Uruguay, represented by Office of Planning and Budget (OPP), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP) and the Institute of Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU), has signed the first public-private partnership contract for educational infrastructure. The contract involved the construction of a total 59 educational centers across Uruguay.

The PPP agreement provides for the design, construction, financing and maintenance of 44 kindergartens in 14 departments across Uruguay, and 15 CAIF centers (center for children and family) in 6 country departments, with a total investment of USD 68 million. The works are planned to be completed in mid-2020.

The initial investment in the 44 kindergartens will total USD 55 million and will be installed in the departments of Artigas, Canelones, Cerro Largo, Colonia, Maldonado, Montevideo, Paysandú, Rivera, Rocha, Salto, San José, Soriano, Tacuarembó and Treinta and three.

15 CAIFs will be built for USD 13 million. They will be located in Artigas, Canelones, Montevideo, Salto, Soriano and Tacuarembó.

The concession period will be valid for 22 years, 2 for construction and 20 for maintenance.
