Eiffage has announced that its subsidiary Eiffage Concessions has secured a €171 million (US$197.6 million) Design, Build, Finance, and Maintain (DBFM ) public-private partnership contract with the Belgian Building Authority and the Federal Public Justice Service to develop a new prison in Vresse-sur-Semois, Wallonia.
The 39,000 m² facility will provide 312 detention places (284 medium-security and 28 restricted-security) and is designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent sustainability certification. Construction will be carried out by a consortium led by Eiffage’s Belgian subsidiaries Duchêne and Valens (construction), Collignon (energy systems), alongside architects SCAU, ETAU, and EOLE, and engineering firms Sweco Belgium, RT Group, and ATS. Maintenance over the 25-year contract will be managed by Fexim, with Sodexo Belgium handling catering, laundry, and waste services.
The prison is expected to be handed over in 2029, marking Eiffage’s second such project in Belgium following the ongoing Marche-en-Famenne detention center, operational and maintained by the group until 2038. This contract reinforces Eiffage’s expertise in complex infrastructure and long-term public service concessions.
