USD 1.13 bn highway concession awarded in Brazil

The Brazilian transportation company, Ecorodovias, has been awarded the concession of the BR-364/365 highway project after the auction held at the end of September.

The project involves the construction of a 437-km highway that will connect the cities of Uberlândia, in the state of Minas Gerais, and Jataí, in the state of Goiás. The highway includes all elements that integrate its domain, including access points and loops, buildings and terrain, lanes, hard shoulder, works of art and any other elements, as well as the areas occupied by operational and administrative premises related to the Concession.

Ecorodovias offered a toll rate of BRL4.69364 (US$1.128) which is 33.14% less than the maximum rate determined by the National Land Transportation Agency of BRL 7.02 (USD 1.729).

Ecorodovias bested the  offers of Silva & Bertoli Empreendimentos and Way Consortium (formed by construction companies that made up the former MGO and the logistics company GLP). Way Consortium offered a discount of 17% the maximum rate and Silva and Bertoli offered a discount of 18% the maximum rate.

The company will operate the project under a 30-year concession period. The project also includes the construction of seven toll plazas: four in Minas Gerais (Uberlandia, Monte Alegre de Minas, Ituiutaba and Santa Vitória) and three in Goiás (Paranaiguara, Cachoeira Alta and Jataí).

The estimated investment of the project is BRL 2.06 billion (USD 507 million) for works and BRL 2.51 billion (USD 618 million) in operating costs such as conservation, operation and monitoring, totaling BRL 4.57 billion (USD 1.13 billion) over the 30 years of the concession.
