ACCIONA has begun work on the second phase of the New Container Terminal at the Port of Cadiz in Spain.

The Port Authority of the Bay of Cadiz has awarded a contract valued at EUR 54 million (US$ 58.4 million) to ACCIONA. This contract involves extending the quay from its current length of 510 m to a total of 1,100 m, with a depth of 16 m. Additionally, the esplanade area will be expanded by approximately 10 ha, resulting in a terminal spanning a total of 40 ha dedicated to container traffic.

To construct this new section of the quay, ACCIONA will build eight reinforced concrete caissons, each exceeding 63 m in length, 24 m in width, and 20.5 m in depth, equivalent to the height of a seven-story building. This contract forms part of the larger project titled "CADIZ CONTAINER MULTIMODAL TERMINAL AND LAND ACCESS. PHASE II," which is co-financed by the European Commission through the 2021 call of the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) funds. The objective of this project is to bolster logistics capacity and foster maritime trade in the region. The project is slated to take 28 months to complete, with an expected finish date in mid-2026.
