Founded in 2020 under Federal Decree-Law No. 31, EtihadWE took over the responsibilities of the former Federal Electricity & Water Authority for the Northern Emirates, including Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Dhaid, Fujairah, Dibba‑Al Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah. The company is wholly owned by the Emirates Investment Authority.
