Four team shortlisted for Sinai hospital redevelopment project

Infrastructure Ontario and Sinai Health System have shortlisted four companies for a P3 to build and finance six key areas of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Based on a request for qualifications process that began in August 2015, the following companies were prequalified:

  • Bondfield Construction Company Ltd.
  • EllisDon Capital Inc.
  • PCL Constructors Canada Inc.
  • Walsh Canada

This third phase of the publicly owned hospital's multi-year redevelopment involves the following elements: doubling the size of the emergency department to accommodate an expected increase in patient volume over the coming years; adding 18 state-of-the-art operating rooms, including a new robotics-assisted suite and 3D imaging technology; adding 18 beds in the intensive care unit for a total to 36, upgrading equipment and improving access to the emergency department; and adding 28 beds to the in-patient unit.

Additionally the selected bidder will have to renovate a central out-patient area in the ambulatory clinic, and redevelop a full-service, in-house medical devices reprocessing department.

Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

“Our government is excited to see the Sinai Health System redevelopment project move to this stage in the process. We are one step closer to starting the renovations at Mount Sinai Hospital, which will provide the outstanding quality of care that patients deserve.”

Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment, and Infrastructure

“I’m pleased to see that we are making progress towards the redevelopment of Mount Sinai Hospital – an important project for the local community, and for our province. This social infrastructure project will create jobs and strengthen Ontario’s economy, while improving the quality of life of Ontarians.”
