Ecorodovias wins Rio-Niteroi bridge concession

EcoRodovias Infraestrutura & Logistica SA has emerged as the preferred bidder for the new Rio-Niterói Bridge concession in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

The team beat out competition from five other bidders that submitted proposals for the projects with a discount of 36% over the tender price.

The five other teams that submitted proposals were TPI- Triunfo Participacoes e Investimentos SA, CS Brasil Transportes de Passageiros e Servicos Ambientais Ltda., Infra Bertin Participacoes SA, Novo Guanabara and Consorcio Ponte, which includes CCR.

The term of the current contract expires in May 2015 and the current concessionaire is CCR, which was awarded the project on 1 June 1995.

EcoRodovias will be responsible for the upgrade, operation and maintenance of the 13.2 km bridge bridge for a period of 30 years. The project will also involve the development of a link to connect with the Red Line road system and the development of a connection under the "Praça Renascença" in Niteró to improve traffic flow.

The total project investment is estimated at R$1.3 billion (US$403.6 million).

The Rio-Niteroi Bridge, is a box girder bridge crossing Guanabara Bay, in the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It connects the city of Rio de Janeiro and the municipality of Niterói. It is currently the longest prestressed concrete bridge in the southern hemisphere, and the sixth longest in the world. From its completion in 1974 until 1985 it was the world's second-longest bridge.
