Colombia's National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has awarded Grupo Odinsa S.A. the Malla Vial del Meta PPP project after no competitive bids were received.

The firm will be responsible for the development of the technical, financial, legal, administrative, operational and environmental issues of the project, which benefits the municipalities of Restrepo, Villavicencio and Cumaral.

The project involves the maintenance of 354 km of roads, the development of a ring road around Villavicencio and the construction of a two-lane road between Ciudad Porfía and Acacias and between Río Ocoa and Apiay. The project also involves the upgrade of the road between Puerto Gaitán and Puente Arimena.

The total project investment is estimated at P$1,26o billion (US$495.5 million).

The project is expected to:

  • reduce the time to cross Villavicencio (about 35 minutes less).
  • increase road capacity (about 45 Km new 2x2 line road).
  • reduce vehicle operating costs and travel times by increasing road speed.

The unsolicited proposal for the project, which was submitted by Grupo Odinsa S.A., was approved by ANI in early June 2014. Later in mid November 2014, ANI approved Girardot - Ibagué - Cajamarca (GICA) highway PPP project (Unsolicited proposal), which was submitted by Colpatria, Mincivil and their partners in the San Rafael concessionaire.

Last month ANI launched a tender process to hire consultants to structure the Charala - Duitama road PPP project. The road project involves the upgrade of a 20 km stretch and the operation and maintenance of the 30 km road between Charala and Duitama.

During this month we have reported about several road PPP projects globally:
