Preferred bidder announced for USD1.4 billion Transmission line PPP project in Chile

Yallique consortium has emerged as the lowest bidder for Kimal-Lo Aguirre transmission line concession. The consortium is made up of Transelec, ISA Inversiones Chile and China Southern Power Grid International (CSG). The consortium submitted a bid with an annual remuneration value of US$116.3 million.

The concession considers development of a 1,415 km bipolar HVDC transmission line with a capacity of 3,000 MW at 600 kV connecting Kimal and Lo Aguirre substations located in the Antofagasta and Metropolitana regions. The project will connect the energy of the renewable projects that are in the north of the country to take it to the center and south of Chile, leveraging the decarbonization of the energy matrix.

This is the first direct current line in Chile; a technology that allows greater transmission capacity with lower transmission losses, compared to alternating current projects, and does not require intermediate substations.
