USD1.2bn EPC contract awarded for subway PPP in Philippines

The project concessionaire for Makati City Subway PPP project in Manila, Infradev Holdings Inc, has signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Co. Ltd.

The EPC deal was signed during the 2020 International Fair for Trade in Services, the Belt, and Road Overseas Projects in Beijing, China. The contract involves mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works for the subway project.

The project involves the construction and operation of a 10-kilometer intra-city subway with 10 stations that will serve Manila´s business district Makati. The subway line will connect key points in Makati: Central Business District, Puyat avenues, Circuit Makati, the Makati City Hall, the Poblacion Heritage Site, University of Makati,  Makati hospital, and the other new business districts within the city.

The project will use a dual-track system and will have air-conditioned, underground island stations that can accommodate up to six-car trains, with room for over 200 persons per car. The subway system is expected to move more than 700,000 passengers per day.

The project is planned to be completed by 2025.
