VDOT releases RFI for new office campus

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in coordination with the Office of Transportation Public-Private Partnerships (OTP3) and the City of Suffolk, has launched a request for information (RFI) for a proposed new district office in Hampton Roads.

The parties are jointly seeking information that will help evaluate options for development, financing, procurement and delivery of the project, as well as identify potential new campus locations.

The new campus should allow for a joint VDOT, Virginia State Police, and other local government services and emergency operations center similar to northern Virginia's public safety and transportation operation center.

Interested parties must submit their responses on or before 16 June 2014.Aubrey L. Layne, Secretary of Transportation, stated:
The office of the Secretary of Transportation is committed to ensuring Hampton Roads transportation needs are addressed proactively. The RFI will serve as the first step in reaching out to the private sector experts as well as the local governments. Competitive procurement will play a large role in adding best value for the commonwealth.
Charlie Kilpatrick, VDOT Commissioner, stated:
This is a great opportunity to learn about the potential of our existing riverfront location from the private sector and possibly secure a new campus-like facility from which we can more effectively and efficiently serve the citizens as well as the many visitors to the Hampton Roads region.
