Aegea wins PPP auction for wastewater treatment in Ceará

The State of Ceará has announced the winner for sewage and ancillary services public private partnership (PPP) project in Ceará, Brazil in the auction held on September 27, 2022 at B3 in São Paulo.

The Aegea consortium will be responsible for sewage services for 4.3 million people in 24 municipalities located in the metropolitan regions of Fortaleza and from Cariri do Ceará. The auction, which had the support of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), was held this Tuesday (27), at B3, in São Paulo. The company also committed to universalizing sewage services by 2033. The concessions provide for total investments of BRL 6.2 billion, of which BRL 2.8 billion in the first five years, in addition to establishing performance and efficiency indicators

The auction of sanitary sewage PPPs in urban regions of municipalities served by Companhia de Água e Esgoto do Ceará (Cagece) had the participation of four bidding consortia: Consórcio Sanece - Saneamento do Ceará, Iguá Saneamento, the Consórcio Ceará Norte-Sul and Aegea Participações SA. The criterion for choosing the auction winners was the offer with the lowest sum of considerations over the 30-year concession period. Aegea offered BRL7.6 million (US$1.4 million) for Block 1 and BRL11.3 million (US$2.1 million) for Block 2, which represent discounts of 27.92% and 37.86%, in relation to the values ​​of the reference studies of the bidding of the blocks.
