Birmingham City Council has unveiled the Birmingham Central Heart Prospectus with support from regional partners and investors to promote the regeneration of the city centre in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The vision was presented to international investors at the global real-estate conference MIPIM in Cannes, France. The prospectus outlines plans to redevelop approximately four hectares of underused retail and office land in the heart of the city into a vibrant mixed-use district. By promoting the project on an international platform, the council aims to attract development partners and investment to support Birmingham’s long-term urban growth. The Central Heart project proposes a large-scale transformation of the city centre by introducing residential, commercial, and public spaces within a single integrated neighbourhood. The development has the potential to deliver up to 5,000 new homes and provide more than 400,000 square metres of commercial floor space. It also aims to improve public spaces, create green routes, and strengthen pedestrian and cycling connections, making the city centre more accessible, sustainable, and attractive for residents, businesses, and visitors.
The project brings together several important redevelopment sites across the city centre, including Martineau Galleries, Martineau Place, Cherry Street, Cannon Street, Carrs Lane, Union Street, 42 High Street, and City Arcade. These locations form a strategic corridor linking major urban destinations such as the Bullring shopping district, New Street Station, the Colmore Business District, and the future HS2 Curzon Street Station. Through this integration, the Central Heart vision aims to create a new city-centre neighbourhood designed for living, working, and leisure.
