Brazil launches public notice for sanitation concession in Ceará

The State Government of Ceará in Brazil has launched a bidding notice seeking a private partner for the sanitation sewage concession in Ceará, Brazil.

The concession includes sewage services in 24 municipalities divided into the following two blocks:

  1. Municipalities located in metropolitan regions of Fortaleza Sul and Cariri;
  2. Municipalities located in metropolitan regions of Fortaleza Norte.

The existing sanitation services cover only 30.18% of households in the regions of Fortaleza Sul and Cariri, while 63.62% of the households have sanitation services in the region of Fortaleza Norte. The project will be implemented in two phases, in the first phase it will cover almost 90% of the population residing in the area while in the second phase services are expected to reach 95% of the population. The project is being procured under a public-private partnership (PPP) with a concession period of 30 years. The estimated investment value for the project is BRL6.2 billion (US$1.13 billion), out of which BRL4.5 billion (US$826 million) in investments are foreseen before 2033.

The deadline to submit the proposal is September 22, 2022. The auction is scheduled to take place on September 27, 2022.
