San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has announced the construction of the New International Airport public-private partnership (PPP) Project (New Manila International Airport) in Bulacan, Philippines would start in Q1 of 2021.

The PHP 740 billion (US$13 billion) New Manila International Airport will be the largest and most modern international gateway in the Philippines. SMC has awarded a US$1.73 billion contract to Royal Boskalis Westminster NV through its subsidiary Boskalis Philippines Inc. The airport has a design capacity of 100 million passengers per year, consisting of 4 to 6 runways, all aviation-related facilities and equipment, and an 8-km airport toll road linking the project to the North Luzon Expressway. The airport will stand on a 2,500-ha land 50 km northwest of Manila.

The construction of the airport will solve the congestion problems at Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the project will create new jobs. The new Manila International Airport is scheduled to be completed by 2024.
