A significant progress in the construction of the Américo Vespucio Oriente II (AVO II) underground highway was monitored on May 13, 2025. The Highway will run through the communes of La Reina, Ñuñoa, Macul and Peñalolén in Chile.
The 5.2-km project includes two three-lane tunnels between Príncipe de Gales and Avenida Los Presidentes, completing the Américo Vespucio ring road to highway standards and reducing travel times from 30 minutes to just 5. In addition, 71,000 m2 of green areas and cycle paths will be built on the surface.
During the supervising event, Vice President of the Republic, Álvaro Elizalde emphasized that "when this project is inaugurated, travel times will be significantly reduced, generating improvements in transportation, but also in surface area, through the investment being made in green areas, which will contribute to beautifying the city of Santiago in this area."
The work, which will be fully completed by 2028, will greatly benefit more than 600,000 residents of these communities
