China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has started the construction phase of the Western Colombia Tram Franchise Project (WCTFP) in western Bogotá, Colombia.

The Western RegioTram, a US$543 million light rail project, is poised to establish a fully electric commuter rail corridor. Spanning 39.6 km, this corridor will primarily utilize an existing railway alignment, establishing a critical link between Bogotá, the capital, and the neighboring municipalities of Facatativá, Madrid, Mosquera, and Funza in Cundinamarca province. The corridor encompasses a total of 17 stations and will seamlessly connect with the planned Bogotá metro Line 1 at the Calle 26 station.

In September 2022, the inaugural low-floor, six-section articulated LRV designed for WCTFP was unveiled at CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles. This LRV features a front profile inspired by the Andean condor, along with specialized insulation and heat dissipation mechanisms suitable for high-altitude climates. It boasts a length of 105 m and can accommodate up to 1,220 passengers. The anticipated inauguration date for the light rail line is set for April 2026.
