Construction starts on Phase 1 of 456km highway in Colombia

The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has given permission to start the construction works for Phase 1 of the Remedial Plan of the Santana - Mocoa - Neiva road PPP project. This will make feasible the interventions exclusively in critical sites and road improvement, which will guarantee passability and safety in this road corridor.

The planned interventions will involve priority works of the removal of landslides, patching, routine major and minor maintenance, making designs for the care of critical sites, and for the development of activities that guarantee the provision of service and passability by this area of ​​the country.

The president of the country assured that works on the improvement of the critical points of the road will start this week with the investment of COP 29 billion (USD 7 million).

The works in phase 1 include the intervention in 44 critical points, of which 12 have been selected as a priority, located mainly in the municipalities of Pitalito, San Juan de Villalobos, Mocoa, Santana. Phase 1 of the Remedial Plan aims to attend to critical and necessary works in the corridor, substantially improving mobility. Phase II will include the execution of all the works foreseen in the concession contract.

Santana - Mocoa - Neiva highway PPP project is a project of the second wave of the Fourth Generation Highways (4G). It involves the construction, improvement, rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the 456km existing corridor between Santana, Mocoa and Neiva. It is a fundamental corridor for the mobilization of passengers and cargo from southern Colombia, towards the center of the country and the Caribbean Coast, which will improve the competitiveness and development of the departments of Huila, Cauca and Putumayo.

The CAPEX investment for the whole project is COP 1,595 billion (USA 423 million).

The concessionary of the project Aliadas para el Progreso is owned by Colombian companies CAS (62.22%), CASS Constructores (30.78%), and Latinco S.A. (7.00%).
